Before COVID-19, baseball purists would never have considered the designated hitter as a possibility in the National League. Speaking of the St. Louis Cardinals designated hitter as a position would sound weird.
Yet, here we are in a different world that no one would have predicted. Because of COVID-19, MLB’s season has been cut short. Starting in July, the league will try to squeeze in a regular season and World Series. Who knows what will happen, but it appears that one of the rule changes will include a universal designated hitter in both the American League and National League.
