Not many considered St. Louis University’s Men’s Basketball team to be much of a threat until the middle of the 1940’s. Even in 1948, when they attended the National Invitational Tournament (NIT), not many considered them to be a contender for the title. However, that quickly changed and coach Ed Hickey and standout player “Easy” Ed Macauley led them team a 65-52 title win over New York University.
